Back in 1914, Thorold did not have a 50+ Centre. Instead, at 8 Carleton Street, there was L.G. Lorriman Public School, which opened its doors in 1914 and continued to educate the children of Thorold until its closure in 1981. In the following year, the building became home to Thorold City Hall until a movement was initiated for Thorold to gain a 50+. City Hall officially changed locations, and with generous support from Ontario Paper, it provided full access to the Thorold Senior Citizens Association in 2014. In recent years, the Centre has grown exponentially and is now operating as the Thorold Centre 50+ on the main and lower floor. City Hall has moved to the new Development Services office on the upper floor, and on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, an official plaque unveiling occurred.

Our wheelchair-accessible facility ensures that members of any physical ability can enjoy our array of activities. At ground level, we also have an elevator accessible from the parking lot.

The Centre’s library has hundreds of books to choose from, along with leather couches and chairs to read them on. Enjoy our library filled with sunlight, where you can chat, play, and read.

Check out our computer room, a peaceful oasis flooded with sunlight—the perfect spot to chat with a friend, surf the internet, or print something free of charge directly from your phone.

Our Centre has a state-of-the-art kitchen that is buzzing with life and good food. Whether it is for our cooking classes, lunches, or special events our kitchen has the best food you've ever had.

Check out our crafts area to see the milk bag mats our members are weaving, or visit the craft table where handmade items are available for purchase; there is always something cool to buy!

Take the elevator down to the pool room and play a few games of snooker or pool. Our billiard room has three tables and is filled with people who are willing to play and help beginners to learn.

Enjoy our shuffleboard room, best described as an "arena" with new flooring and large windows for letting in natural light. It's designed for both new and pro players.

The main room has folding walls that can close off sections when multiple activities overlap. It is an open area for activities, such as exercise, special events, and meetings.
